Updates

Well, it’s almost Feb 2008… and I’m coming up toward my sixth year as a massage therapist, five years of self-employment, three years of vegetarianism, and my LAST SEMESTER of grad school (WAHOO!!!).  This semester is about to get very hectic with exit exams, internships, and other requirements for my graduation so I thought this would be a good time to give a BRIEF (because many of you know how much I like to write) update to everyone on what’s going on with my practice.

First, I’ve started my last semester (love saying that) of school and practicum (internship). My new hours for the months of Jan through May can be found at: NEW HOURS

Second, Am I massaging after graduation: A lot of you have asked me if I will be continuing to do massage therapy after I graduate. The answer is YES, though I will only take appointments in the evening and weekends, and will only for my current clients and referrals. I am going into the field of counseling, not so I can leave my current practice, but so I can help those who are creating physical trauma due to depression, anxiety, etc. I have to spend 3000 hours working with someone else then plan to start my own method of counseling that helps heal both mind and body… I’m very excited about it.

Third, I am learning just how ill-equipped the state of Texas is for dealing with those who are mentally disabled.  Over the summer I worked at Turtle Creak Manor, a halfway house located in Oaklawn. I can’t express what an amazing experience it was and have written everything I learned from working with patients with a dual diagnoses of chemical dependency and mental disorders.  Check out: JOURNAL.

I spent the fall working with children at the Timberlawn Mental Health hospital and currently working with adults.  I will be writing about my experience with them in May… you won’t believe what we are doing to our children and how it affects them as adults… it’s amazing… and needs to be changed.

Finally, I just wanted to tell all of you what an incredible six years this has been.  Thanks to all of you who have supported me through graduate school. Again, I feel blessed for all of the wonderful people that have come in and out of my life.
